Looking Back, Looking Ahead

Amazed!

Hey guys let's talk:

I take a look back at where I was and where I am right now and I'm surprised of all I've learned and accomplished as a woman, mother and student. I look back to 2010 when I graduated from high school and went to college and to be honest I wasn't motivated, inspired, focused at all, my classes where a joke to me and I had low grades! I sucked! (Sorry for my language) I spend most of my time hanging out with people to avoid going to class and actually become someone in life.

Now that life has hit me a few time I see why education is so important, not only for my personal, professional growth but I've struggled with finding a good paying job that will help me provide a good, stable life for my daughter. I feel like now my whole perspective has changed since I have a daughter and since I've seen that with each year finding jobs with no diploma its harder. Some of us it takes us a little more time to find what we want to do in life and need to find that "aaaww" feeling to say "Ohh thats what I'm going to do" my advice to those who currently are not motivated in school, find themselves discouraged my advice to you guys is find yourselves, look for what you like, change mayors if you have to but don't completely quit school. Life starts to get in the way and it gets harder to get back into it, look at me!! took me 4 years to get back and to be honest if it wasn't for my family support I would be able to get back and actually see myself setting expectation, goals and motivated to get it done for me and my daughter. Everything that I've learned has been amazing, I will definetly use it to my full advantage. I want to be very successful at what I do and I'm so honered that I got to have great teachers along the way.
My motivation for everything!

To those out there!! Don't get discouraged find your passion and pursue it with all your mind, heart and should and trust me when its all set and done, the satisfaction and proudness you will feel about yourself would be incredible and it will never feel like a job, but just a passion that pays.

Add me on my---> Professional Website <---

Hope you guys have a great week! Keep going! Don't give up!!

Media Literacy

What is  Media Literacy?

So I missed this class because of work issues but I got a chance to review what our teacher gave that day and it basically what I thought it was! LOL

So What's Media Literacy?
-Our interaction with media and the messages we take away from it; Our ability to access, analyze, evaluate and create media messages.

One of the things that caught my attention

Pretty self explanatory right? But what are we doing as teacher to teach our students about Media? are we teaching them how to analyze and evaluate it? To the actuality media is neither bad nor good it really depends how you view it and use it; media has a lot of different purposes, we as teacher can use it for the actual learning experience that it can be used for. Media can expose kids to people, countries, and situations that maybe they will never get to experience in real life. Meet other students in foreign countries, and communicate with them about the same thing their studying. There's endless positive possibilities that we as teacher can give to our students we just need to use it carefully and use it for the right purposes, and teach our kids to do the same thing. If you want to get more info about Media Literacy I found this very interesting --->Literacy <---

Now that I got that out of the way! this things I found very interesting
Wow! Didn't even realize it was that much!
I only thought about 3 of them
Music does effect moods! Maybe we should expose it to kids!
I believe this is so true!!

Twitter Chat

Incredible

Hey guys! It seems like I haven't posted in forever!! It's been super hectic for me that I just been focused on catching up in my classes, but I haven't forgotten about you guys! So lets talk about Twitter Chat shall we?!

I've heard about this Twitter chat trough TV, people on the radio and even Facebook, but since I really didn't have a Twitter I never paid mind to it until my tech teacher told the whole classroom to make a twitter account and to start adding people in the same profession you are, so of course we all did and in in one of our classes she wanted to join a twitter chat about teachers, school, etc. So she started to chat with people and I was amazed of all the positive feedback she got and it was all live, happening in front of us!!
Unfortunately I haven't been able to connect to Twitter as much as I want just because of this hectic weeks I've been having but I understand why people, radio, Facebook, etc talk about twitter chats, you get to connect with people from around the world and talk about the same ideas, concerns, ideas, etc about whatever topic, subject you want. I will defiantly use it more often for any questions, opinions on teaching, specially since I might volunteer this summer in a church day care that will open this summer in my community church so not only will I get hands-on experience but its a head start to really see if I really love teaching young kids!! But anyways add me on---> Twitter <---

Here's my post from when my Teacher was chatting with other Teachers

Digital Tattoo

Food for Thought

So the other day in my Facebook page I got a notification of a 5years old video I had, you know that Facebook from time to time would show you those memories from a same day from 1-5 years ago... so yeah I got a notification and I saw it and I was like "OMG!! my voice!, my hair! What the heck?!?!" ...Then I had another notification of a post I did like 3years back and I read it and didn't even understood what I was saying or what was the propose to it. I felt like I was reading a post from someone else, I felt shocked and some sort of embarrassed. The first thing that came to my mind was that the Internet really doesn't erase or disappear things, but hides them for a while but it appears now and then. But theres also been good memories that have popped up that I had forgotten about so when those come up I feel better hahaha...
But memories like this makes all the bad one not so bad!

Now that I'm 24 years old and a mom I see life differently and of course part of it it's because I've matured as well, I realize that my generation post anything and everything and sometimes that can be a good thing but also a bad thing; Funny thing is that my teacher was talking about this the other day and it just reminded me of those "embarrassing" comments and teenage things I used to post. She asked a question that really made me think about all my post in Facebook, Instagram etc. she said "Will all of those posts effect you professionally in any way?, Will they help you? or Will they be indifferent?" Even though my posting wouldn't affect my professional life in a negative way NOW, I feel that it hasn't got to the level where I can say with certainty that will separate and distinguish me professionally, and I defiantly don't want to be looked at is indifferent my posts! but hopefully NOW with this blog and my Professional Portfolio (Its a working progress BTW) employers can see a different side of me beside as a young mom going to school and working my butt (excuse my language) off for my future that my daughter and I deserve.

Its like my teacher said all of the things you put out there in the internet its like a Digital Tattoo, you can't completely erase it! its the same thing as a regular tattoo! even when you try to remove it with laser or other treatments.

So people when posting on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Blogs, etc. REMEMBER those questions that my teacher asked and tell me your answers I would love to know!! Happy Posting! :)

CCSS

Class Discussion

Common Core State Standard (CCSS)

Okay... Uff not going to lie I'm so confused on this topic but I did understand a few things that I'm going point out that I understood...These standards define what knowledge and skills, students need during elementary and secondary schooling in order to be able to complete and succeed in post-secondary education and work force. Meaning that the CCSS establishes critical thinking, reasoning, technology literacy, etc. Teachers need to achieve this in there classroom, which does NOT effect their way of teaching, what they can teach, to what extent, or how to really manage your classroom. So it's not just all fun and game folks we as teacher have our work cut out for us; But i'm going to give you the perfect presentation of what exactly we need to do as figuring out how to do a CCSS that my teacher gave us---> How to read and unpack CCSS <---

So she said to make a lesson plan according to the CCSS and she gave us a link so when can get an idea on how to start!

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.K.2

Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.

Skills:

Capitalization
Punctuation
Spelling

Lesson: Kindergarten students will be given a few sentences to begin learning how to capitalized a sentence, use correct punctuation and of course will be checked for their spelling. We will be using simple short words like hat, cat, mat, etc. The students would use cut up letters and punctuation marks that will be given out to put on the board to identify the correct letter or punctuation on the sentence. Also we will have morning messages where students will identify where is the capital letters, punctuations, commas, exclamation points and so on, Also with every right answer they will get to do a "smarty pants" dance were they will fill exited to try their best in learning a new material.

what do you guys think? too simple? too hard? too short? honest opinions!!!
...... Maybe I'm not ready to be a teacher just yet hahahahaha

Stages of Technology Integration

Topic of the Day

Stages of Technology

So the other day my teacher set up an assignment on the topic "Stages of Technology" and asked us a few questions, but first, let me give you a quick lesson on this topic.

So basically is an experiment that was done in classrooms to see how teacher would find technology useful to use in there lesson plans. There's 5 stages on how they believe the Teacher felt about technology as a result of testing them out. These today are still active and I believe teacher are still in some of these stages.

Heres is the whole presentation if you like to see it ---> Stages of Technology <---

I took these pictures off the presentation!

There simple and straight to the point if you don't want to see the presentation :)

So the teacher asked us if we felt we were in one of these stages personally or professionally and I'm going to be very honest! I'm a beginner in the professional aspect of it, but I feel like I would be the type of teacher that is the Innovator, since I'm NOW learning all the benefits of having technology and for what can be used in my curriculum and classroom that when I get to actually start teaching I would feel like and expert and confident about it. Personally I've used technology since I was 13 years old and it's been basically for social purposes. NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT! My Mom was very trusting of me! letting a 13 year old be in a computer exploring! Uuuffff!!!... But she did monitor me and I really used it for social proposes. But social tech also did help me in my typing skills and how to communicate to different crowds , age groups, see different perspectives and ideas, communicate with people from different places (of course it was monitored). Now as professionally not only I can use it for those purposes but it has opened a new window for me to use technology for educational purposes like I'm doing right now with this blog! Blogging you guys about what I'm learning and teaching you guys what I learned. Each day I like more and more teaching and I can't wait to actually start doing it with real students in a real classroom.

Continuous Active Learning

Topic of the Day

What is Active Learning?

I found myself so confused when this question was asked the other day in class! To be honest I really didn't understand the answer the Professor gave, so I went and looked it up and this is what it said.
Active learning is a process whereby students engage in activities, such as reading, writing, discussion, or problem solving that promote analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of class content.
Simple right?! We all have learned an active learning experience in some shape or form, where we have in groups done all of that. For some odd reason I didn't get it for a second but when I actually did a project that the Professor asked us to do I immediately understood what she was talking about, to be honest I felt a little embarrassed because it was just that simple.

So here is what I did with another student in my class ---> Active Learning Assignment <---

Isn't that awesome?! the fact that the Teacher wanted one of her students to stay connected with the rest of the class! I would of loved that in my time. How time change right? Technology in its way...

Simple way to describe what Active Learning is all about
Now... I so would of loved for all of the teachers in my life to actually done more of these activities because I'm the type of student that loves to get involved in all activities and it gets me more interested in whatever topic we are discussing and it's a better way (at least for me) to learn and actually NOT study, the class is so dynamic and fun you don't even realize you are learning! Its a very simple term but yet so empowering and I can't wait to try it with my future students, find what method works better for them and put it to practice. I really believe all teacher should have some method like this in there classrooms because why should a classroom be boring?

Official Welcome!

Welcome to my Page!

A little bit about me...

Welcome to my blog page! I'm very exited to actually start doing this more often, to be honest I never considered putting my thought on the internet like that! although in the past I did write but it was more in paper (journals). The main reason I started this blog was because my teacher from one of my classes required me to have a blog, but now I think I'm going to enjoy this!! :D

A little throwback from 2012 in Puerto Rico
Okay a little about me... I'm a 24 year old mom/student living in the crazy state of Illinois, I'm originally from Puerto Rico, La Isla del Encanto! Wuuujuuuuu!!! I'm currently going for my BA in Early Childhood Education but to be honest I love more the Psychology part of it than the actual teaching, (maybe because I really haven't spent time in the classroom to get the feel to it). I have a beautiful 2 year old daughter who makes me work harder to get my education and career on track. I love to paint, sing, dance, do crafty thing and find natural ways to have a healthy life. I live a simple yet hectic life.

I really hope that I can get to know my viewers more and see the feedbacks!

Overwhelming New Tech

What did I get into?...

Today I start my new journey on getting to know how technology works professionally, I'm very exited but overwhelmed with all the info giving to me. All of this remind me of my ex-fiancĂ© that graduated in computer science 2 years ago, he was always in his computer in different website and I will just take a glance at it and was confused on what was going on and getting headaches, now I get to see what he went through to learn so many thing in technology and trying to explain it to me. I'm very exited to learn all of this but at the same time I really hope the teacher is patient in teaching me how everything works. Can't wait to get techy!!

In another note I'm very exited that I can actually promote my "Just for Fun Art" page, you guys can go on this link and go see all my projects there-----> KD Paintings <-----
